HONDA!!!

me-in-mammothSo, I booked a Honda commercial…..

I know, you’re like, “Gee, Matt I thought I woulda heard a bit sooner,”…and you totally would have….and it’s a lame excuse…but I was waiting to blog about it until I could get some pictures up for it!!

The whole process was really incredible…ASG was the casting director, and when I auditioned, I had to wear full on winter gear AND lug around golf clubs (keep in mind it was almost 80 that week in sunny L.A.)  At the first audition, we were the very first group to go in….which usually sucks in my opinion, because you’re more often than not, a guinea pig for casting to try and work out any kinks in finding what they’re looking for.  It paid off in this case, apparently.  Later one of the ad people said, we thought, ” Well great, at least we have these guys if we don’t find anyone else!”

img_1298_jpgThe spot was supposed to shoot in Fairbanks, Alaska…which would have been pretty awesome.  We ended up shooting here in California at Mammoth mountain because, well, believe it or not, there was more snow here than in Alaska?!?!?

We got driven up to Mammoth from the Burbank airport.  A P.A. named Javier drove us the 5 hours to Mammoth.  As you can see the views were incredible.  So were the other actors.  We all got along really well.  We were a broad demographic consisting of the guy you wish you looked like (Jon), the guy you actually look like (me), the black guy (Casey), and the Asian (Marcus).

The day of shooting was great…about 10 hours of shooting…we threw a lot of snowballs…

2009-10-21-101453I have to say the craziest thing was the breathing…it was hard…and no, I’m not in the best shape of my life, but EVERYONE was talking about it…we were at 8,400ft most of the time…we got up to 9,000ft during shooting.  Trudging through the snow with golf clubs.  I thought I was gonna need an oxygen tank.

img_1337_jpgThe next day we came back…Javier got a ticket, though…which sucked.  Especially since the cop was so nice, we kept thinking that he was gonna let Javier out of it…nope.  Can’t stand cops.  They remind me of wasps.

This spot was great because I got to travel and meet some great guys.  we got per diem (money to buy food/drink when you’re on a travel shoot) and spent most of it on a luxurious dinner after our shoot day since it was Jon’s birthday…and this old woman called Marcus oriental and said he probably liked fish.  She was drunk, and my hat goes off to Marcus for holding his tongue and not hitting a woman.  She seriously had no clue that what she said was offensive and was actually pretty sweet otherwise.  maybe that stayed his hand as well.

img_1328_jpgAnd Casey was DJ Twist from In Living Color…if you remember that show like I do…(I had a “Wanda” T-shirt and Jim Carrey was a huge influence on me)…it was a huge treat.

I coulda been stuck up there with a bunch of diva a-holes, but these guys were great…crew too, director….everyone.

Let’s just hope and pray they run the hell out of it!!!

Thanks for reading!!!
