The amazing Ghost Whisperer shoot

Hello friends!
Well, as I sit at the keyboard, I must admit I’d rather be in wardrobe, going over my lines, and waiting to get called to set. But I suppose that’s natural. After all, a fish finds it only natural to be in the water. And this is no exaggeration dear friends. I felt so at peace, and confident, and……..right. It just felt right. I hope it’s in the Plan for me to continue on this path. I LOVE it! And, I know it’s stupid for a blogger to say this, but I’m kind of at a loss as to how to describe my feelings about it further.
I want to remain humble, but I think I was pretty damn awesome….LOL! People were really complimentary of my work…my incredible, beautiful scene partner Erin Chambers…the director, John Behring…even Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Jaime Kennedy, John Asher, and Jeff Hephner. Even the sound guys and DP. But that’s all I’m going to toot the horn…and that’s probably more than enough. I want my work to stand on its own, and so I’ll just let you judge for yourselves. I’ll post the airdate when I find out. It’ll probably be sometime in April.
The first day was very energized. I was pretty nervous (all great actors get nervous, don’t you know…LOL) and severely caffeinated. My call time was 5 am, and so, not wanting to fall asleep on set (which my nerves never would have allowed, anyway), I downed a couple of espresso shots and a big cup of coffee. Luckily, they had some port-a-potties nearby on set.
We shot from 7 am to 7 pm. I’m not going to spoil anything…I know that fans of the show read my blog…so I’ll just say that my fellow actors were incredible. Both days Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Jaime Kennedy both were so giving! More often than not I’ve heard that stars of TV and film will go to their trailer or do something else when their coverage isn’t being shot…meaning they aren’t on camera because it’s another actor’s close-up’s. Not only did both of them stay on set with me, but they were very present, and engaged in the scene! Both are great actors, and after this experience I have the utmost respect for both of them.
Also shot on day one were the scenes with my “love interest”, Erin Chambers. Not only has she enjoyed a great career so far, but I really think she’s going to blow up…and probably soon. She’s an amazing actor, and simply flush with talent. I know that you all are going to love her. That day, in the neighborhood where we were shooting, a massive bird was mating or dying or giving birth or something. It was so loud and annoying…they had to ask the homeowners (ask…LOL, more like payoff) to put it inside or somehow keep it quiet. Someone later said it was David Hasselhoff’s…which I’m not entirely sure I believe.
I want to keep this brief so it’s readable….and not daunting.
So, day 2 was great. A huge dialogue-heavy scene for me, and I got through it very well, I must say. The crew were REALLY happy because if I hadn’t been a professional (AKA know my lines inside and out and nail the scene)….we’d have been there all day. But it went really smooth, and we actually finished earlier than scheduled. We shot at Universal’s backlot. Tourists trams came by which was a total trip. And a doe (a deer, a female deer) came down the hill and was watching us on the monitor. Crazy. Apparently there’s a bunch of deer in the hills of Universal City.
My character is a guy who doesn’t realize what he’s got til it’s gone, and through trying to get her back, he comes to his own peace about himself and realizes he can go on without her. I’ve begun to create playlists for my characters. It’s really helped me get into the characters and connect emotionally with them. Music that describes the character or music that they would like. A few songs from “Todd’s” playlist (for all you music lovers): True Love Waits by Radiohead, The Hazards of Love 4 by The Decemberists, Here I go Again by Whitesnake , January Wedding by the Avett Brothers, Gone for Good by The Shins, and I’ve Got Dreams to Remember by Otis Redding.

Congrats Matt! Sounded like fun. Keep up the good work… so me and Shaw can sell our scripts with you connected!! hehe jk. But very awesome, I’ll be sure to watch that episode.

Matt, yes, you were excellent on Ghost Whisperer tonight. You nailed your scenes. It must have been fun throwing that punch — and rehearsing that kiss! I hope we’ll see you soon in other good roles. Wishing you continued success with your career.
Hey Matt…this is Gina from Johnson City…and we are very proud of you…you were awesome and if there hadn’t been publicity on the local news and I was watching you acting on tv…I would not have even known you were from East Tennessee…lol….so was Jennifer Love Hewitt as sweet as she seems on tv???
