Been too long…
Posted on March 20, 2009
Hey there peoples! I haven’t blogged in a while. Some of you thought it may have been frustration from those awesome auditions not working out. That may be subconsciously true, but I feel alright about it. It’s the nature of the beast. I did my best. It just wasn’t my time….s. Initially I had intended to update the blog every Friday unless there was a lot of activity…or if I just felt like it. I’ll try and stick to that from now on.
Lately I have been going out for voice-over quite a bit. There have been some VO commercials and some Comedy Central pilots, too! We’ll just have to wait and see.
I had a couple of auditions for commercials last week. Another one for State Farm, believe it or not, but I would have heard back by now. And speaking of State Farm, I had a Subway audition and got to go in with Abby Miller…who was my wife in a previous State Farm spot. Pretty, neat, huh? I was just eating a burger and dancing and had to butt bump her out of frame. Butt bump.
My musical, Makin’ Hay is doing pretty well. We’ve had some great reviews from LA Times, Backstage West, and a website. Have had some full houses. There are still 3 weekends left (including this one) if you want to come out. Thanks to those of you who have! Call the Actor’s Co-Op at 323.462.8460 for tickets and information.
In other news, my great friend Luke Pickerill took some new headshots for me, and I’ll be posting those up as soon as I can narrow it down to the best ones.
Lastly, I have to say what a salvation my acting class with Tom Irwin is. I truly come alive in that class. It’s no frills scene study. Everyone in there is a great actor and super committed. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a class. I’m doing a scene from All my Sons by Arthur Miller. It is so incredibly challenging, and I need that. As an artist, I feel myself growing in understanding and exploration. It is amazing.
Thanks for reading!!!

Cold Case and a great Hay review
Posted on March 2, 2009
Of all the bonehead things I could have done at my Cold Case audition today…I left one of the pages of my sides (lines) in my briefcase in the lobby. I was in the room with the casting director doing another pre-read (see the Grey’s Anatomy post), and I’m on a roll. I get to the last page and it’s not there!!! I went through all of my pages twice. Obviously to the casting director, something was wrong. Nevertheless, thanks to doing mt homework, I had the lines under my belt pretty well, and was able to recover. He even commented on what a nice recovery it was and said that I had done a great job. Normally I can tell when they’re just saying that to transition you out of the office and when they really mean it. His kudos felt pretty daggum real.
I can’t help but feel kinda crappy about it, though. Because of the flub-up, and also because at the Grey’s audition I was asked to stay around for a producer’s session. Now, it is probably very true that every casting office in town doesn’t do it exactly like Grey’s…maybe Cold Case has a producer’s session tomorrow? It’s outta my hands. As far as the actual acting went, I felt pretty good. It would be a GREAT role. A Guest Star in 2 episodes! Military guy, so I’d have to buzz my head. Yea, in a heartbeat I would.
I’m still optimistic about my reads last week for ER and Grey’s, too. Probably won’t be on Friday, though.
I went to church last night. Some of you may be church people, and some of you may not. Whatever. That’s beside the point. The pastor shared something from the Bible that struck me pretty hard. He said that we should be thankful always, and for every circumstance. Obviously, that gets convoluted and confusing in the face of tragedy and whatnot, but I found it very freeing. On top of that I just saw Millions (a film by Danny Boyle who just won the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire) again, and was reminded of how blessed we are just to have clean drinking water! So I choose to be thankful today, in the midst of such great opportunities and such uncertainty. I hope you’ll be thankful with me, and keep up those thoughts and prayers.
I had a pretty great review for my show Makin’ Hay. You can read the review by clicking here.
A reminder…Makin’ Hay runs Fri/Sat nights and Sun. afternoons, Feb 27th-April 5th. 1/2 price tickets can be found at goldstar.com, plays411.com, and lastagealliance.com. Hope you can make it!
Have a great week!
