Off to a good week
Posted on May 20, 2009
Yes, I know it’s Wednesday.
On Monday I had a great day. It started with rehearsal for my acting class with my scene partner Jules. The scene is from Neil Labute’s The Shape of Things, and is hilarious and really fun to play. Jules is a great actress, and as next Monday is my last class, I’m a little sad. After that, I had a meeting with a manager in Sherman Oaks which went pretty well. I have a couple of these meetings lined up (including another good one today) and am looking forward to adding someone else to team Lowe. Yea, that was lame. Anyway, after the manager meeting I had a voice over audition for a Nickelodeon pilot. It was a Chris Farleyesque character named “Monster”. Daggum, I want to be a cartoon!
Then I went to a commercial audition for Verizon that would shoot in Buenos Aires for a week! I’ve dusted off my passport. The audition went okay. I didn’t get the direction I was looking for and after the first time I did it the guy said to “throw it away more”. I get what he’s saying, but I always feel that after I get that note I play it extremely deadpan and lose about half of my energy. In this spot, I don’t think that’s what they are looking for, but we’ll see. Callbacks are tomorrow and Friday. Don’t cry for me if I don’t get it Argentina.
Today was great too. Had that meeting with another manager at the Coffee Bean at Fairfax and Sunset. That place is such a place to be seen. It was kinda funny. All the coked out beautiful people come down from out of the Hollywood Hills around noon to have some paparazzo take their picture and get their hangover cured by natures best remedy. Very she she, but fun nonetheless.
And I had a VO for a video game which I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement for…so that’s all you’ll hear about that.
I hope to get a great manager soon, and I hope to be off to Buenos Aires, too…It would be over my birthday. Maybe I’ll go buy a cupcake and cash in my wish early. Think that would work?

AVAIL for ESPN!
Posted on May 6, 2009
I got put on avail for ESPN! By now, if you’ve been tracking me, you know what an avail is and how frequently (or infrequently) they turn into me being on set. Basically it’s me and a couple of other guys, and they haven’t made their final decision between us.
If any of you are actors, I got this audition by submitting myself through www.lacasting.com. If you’re not signed up for it, I encourage you to do so. I get “Union Roles fit for me” sent to my email. I normally don’t submit because my agent is awesome, but I didn’t have time to make sure they submitted me for this one and…booyah!
The audish was on Monday, and I saw a great friend of mine there…Ryan Radis…from my acting class. We got to go into the room together, and it really helped to have someone in there that I trusted and had worked with before…especially since all of the lines were improved. The spot is basically guys sitting around and doing fantasy football. Some on a clipboard, and some on ESPN.com. No callback for the spot, though. I thought that was odd, but I guess sometimes they don’t have them.
Say some prayers for me!
In VO news, I auditioned for a Disney thing…Kick Buttowski. Quite a funny script, and I really liked it. Also, I had to do a voicematch for Danny McBride for Land of the Lost. I’d love to get that. If you do the ADR (after dialogue recording) on a film, it’s like you’re in the movie…and you get paid that way, too! If the sound was bad in a certain scene and the actor…usually a celebrity…can’t make time to do it, they get a voicematcher.
They’re also working on a sketch comedy show with all of the Looney Tunes, so I had to voicematch Daffy, Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, and a few others for that. Needless to say, after Daffy and Sylvester, the mic was a little damp.
I had a voicematch for Paul Bettany as well today for IronMan 2. Things seem to be picking up a smidge. Feast or famine, huh? Well all I can say is…I’m hungry!
