Duuuude and 4/9/2010

Posted on February 26, 2010

Wow.  Been a bit slow for me lately.  That’s how it goes, though…..feast or famine.  I recorded the Medal of Honor video game voice-over 2 weeks ago and have only had a couple of VO auditions since then….

Til today!  I had an amazing audition for NCIS.  A “stoner dude” (ala Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure).  It was really fun and right up my alley….or “in my wheelhouse” to use a parlance of our times.  Here’s hoping!  I mean hoping, not hoping, btw.

GHOST WHISPERER is set to air 4/9/2010!!!  I think it’s a bit early to set the ol’ TIVO, but I’ll be sure to post again the week of to remind everyone, and I’ll create an event page for all you fellow facebookers out there.  I’m really excited to see it, and even in down times career-wise, I am extremely thankful with the success that I’ve been blessed with!

Thanks for reading!  Have a great weekend!!!

Pilotsville and MOH

Posted on February 17, 2010

Hello, Hello!

So, last week was pretty amazing.  I had 2 pilot auditions, and one of them sent me to producers at Paramount.  I had 2 commercial auditions, and I recorded the video game, Medal of Honor.

The first pilot was called True Love, and the character was really fun.  A cynical, love-jaded, New -Yorker.  I read in the morning for a woman, and then she asked me if I could run over to Paramount in an hour to read for the producers.  And so I went over to Paramount Pictures and read in a little bungalow for about 4 people.  I thought it went great.  they didn’t really say anything when I finished (I usually like some notes…maybe a 2nd attempt…just so they can see I can take direction), but the Ghost Whisperer people didn’t say anything either, and that turned out pretty damn good.

The next pilot was an untitled comedy by Adam Goldberg and Seth Gordon.  Happy Madison is producing it…Adam Sandler’s production company.  The script was hilarious, and the character was like a Gob Bleuth, Dwight Schrute hybrid.  I could not have knocked it out of the park any harder, IMAO (in my arrogant opinion…just learned that recently).  Again, just a warm thank you at the end of the read.  But sometimes with pilots, it’s not really all that immediate.  It can take a week or more to get a callback, so there’s still a chance.

The commercials went well, I thought.  No real dialogue.  Kind of a look based thing.  And commercials are like the lottery a lot of the time.  The more you play, the more opportunities to win.

Last Friday I recorded Medal of Honor.  I recorded a news reporter and then a Special Ops guy.  It was awesome.  Screaming at people that there are snipers at 10 o’clock, grenades, RPG’s, etc.  Pretty much a dream come true.  The game looks INCREDIBLE, and I can’t wait til it’s finished and we can all play it.  All the audio guys were really nice, accommodating, and pretty hilarious, too.  Terri Douglas was the CD that booked me on this and I hope she becomes a Matt Lowe fan because she casts/works a TON.  Oh, and I promise to keep the talking about myself in the 3rd person to a bare minimum.

Kind of quiet this week for me.  Which is good because I’ve gotta get my taxes taken care of.  Have a great week and thanks for reading!!!

The amazing Ghost Whisperer shoot

Posted on February 3, 2010

Hello friends!

Well, as I sit at the keyboard, I must admit I’d rather be in wardrobe, going over my lines, and waiting to get called to set.  But I suppose that’s natural.  After all, a fish finds it only natural to be in the water.  And this is no exaggeration dear friends.  I felt so at peace, and confident, and……..right.  It just felt right.  I hope it’s in the Plan for me to continue on this path.  I LOVE it!  And, I know it’s stupid for a blogger to say this, but I’m kind of at a loss as to how to describe my feelings about it further.

trailer1I want to remain humble, but I think I was pretty damn awesome….LOL!  People were really complimentary of my work…my incredible, beautiful scene partner Erin Chambers…the director, John Behring…even Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Jaime KennedyJohn Asher, and Jeff Hephner. Even the sound guys and DP.  But that’s all I’m going to toot the horn…and that’s probably more than enough.  I want my work to stand on its own, and so I’ll just let you judge for yourselves.  I’ll post the airdate when I find out.  It’ll probably be sometime in April.

The first day was very energized.  I was pretty nervous (all great actors get nervous, don’t you know…LOL) and severely caffeinated.  My call time was 5 am, and so, not wanting to fall asleep on set (which my nerves never would have allowed, anyway), I downed a couple of espresso shots and a big cup of coffee.  Luckily, they had some port-a-potties nearby on set.

trailer5We shot from 7 am to 7 pm.  I’m not going to spoil anything…I know that fans of the show read my blog…so I’ll just say that my fellow actors were incredible.  Both days Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Jaime Kennedy both were so giving!  More often than not I’ve heard that stars of TV and film will go to their trailer or do something else when their coverage isn’t being shot…meaning they aren’t on camera because it’s another actor’s close-up’s.  Not only did both of them stay on set with me, but they were very present, and engaged in the scene!  Both are great actors, and after this experience I have the utmost respect for both of them.

Also shot on day one were the scenes with my “love interest”, Erin Chambers.  Not only has she enjoyed a great career so far, but I really think she’s going to blow up…and probably soon.  She’s an amazing actor, and simply flush with talent.  I know that you all are going to love her.  You can see what she’s done by clicking her name in this post…it’ll send you to her website where you can watch her reel.  You can see her here on IMDB, too.

todds-houseThat day, in the neighborhood where we were shooting, a massive bird was mating or dying or giving birth or something.  It was so loud and annoying…they had to ask the homeowners (ask…LOL, more like payoff) to put it inside or somehow keep it quiet.  Someone later said it was David Hasselhoff’s…which I’m not entirely sure I believe.

I want to keep this brief so it’s readable….and not daunting.

So, day 2 was great.  A huge dialogue-heavy scene for me, and I got through it very well, I must say.  The crew were REALLY happy because if I hadn’t been a professional (AKA know my lines inside and out and nail the scene)….we’d have been there all day.  But it went really smooth, and we actually finished earlier than scheduled.  We shot at Universal’s backlot.  Tourists trams came by which was a total trip.  And a doe (a deer, a female deer) came down the hill and was watching us on the monitor.  Crazy.  Apparently there’s a bunch of deer in the hills of Universal City.

leaves-in-hairMy character is a guy who doesn’t realize what he’s got til it’s gone, and through trying to get her back, he comes to his own peace about himself and realizes he can go on without her.  I’ve begun to create playlists for my characters.  It’s really helped me get into the characters and connect emotionally with them.  Music that describes the character or music that they would like.  A few songs from “Todd’s” playlist (for all you music lovers):  True Love Waits by Radiohead, The Hazards of Love 4 by The Decemberists, Here I go Again by Whitesnake , January Wedding by the Avett Brothers, Gone for Good by The Shins, and I’ve Got Dreams to Remember by Otis Redding.

Thanks for reading everyone!  It truly was a magical time for me, and I am so thankful to God for this opportunity to use the talents He gave me.  Blessings to you all!

Oh, and enjoy the pictures of “Todd’s house”, my trailer, and some leaves in my hair.
